Web Design
In 1997 after earning my BFA in Fine Art Photography I took some design and multimedia courses at Monroe Community College in Rochester, NY. Moving to Northampton, MA in 1999 I began working as a web designer for a local company. After about a year I decided to focus on photography, and have spent the last decade building my business, reputation and portfolio. I have always kept one foot in the web design world because I like to design my own websites and like playing with design on my computer.
The intervening decade has brought about Web 2.0 along with vast improvements for Internet users (which at this moment happens to be you). Open source content management and publishing platforms like Wordpress (the site you are now on is Wordpress-powered) and Drupal help make the creation of complex web sites much easier, faster and less expensive. The platform I mainly use, Wordpress, was made with bloggers in mind so the user interface is very user-friendly. People can simply log in to their site and use the “back end” of the site to manage their content. The Drupal experience for the site owner is much the same, but the implementation requires a deeper knowledge of computer programming, and the platform has features that Wordpress doesn’t.
I am available to create small to medium sized web sites based on Wordpress. I am also available to train people in using Wordpress, HTML and CSS to maintain your websites. For Drupal sites I collaborate with a programming genius named Scott Lahteine. Using these two platforms we can create a web site for any purpose, which will be guaranteed to evolve with the latest technologies. And if you want to use a different web designer in the future it will be easy to find someone familiar with the foundation of your site. Included with the site design and implementation is instruction on how to update and change your site’s content, and even the way it looks!
Rates for web sites vary based on scope and other considerations. Please contact me to find out more or to set up a meeting.
Here are some samples of my work:
TheVeganBus.com
is a web site that we use to promote and update people about the adventures of The Vegan Bus. This is a full size school bus converted to run on waste vegetable oil (WVO). The web site uses lots of plugins that programmers have made to enhance Wordpress. Some of these include contact forms, photo galleries, and even a plug in that allows users to log in with their Facebook and Google accounts
